Something is ringing. I can hear it but it seems far away. And it. just. keeps. ringing. It’s my phone. At 1:30 am.
Four children. Emergency placement. Domestic violence. Can we take them now? Of course. It’s what we do when we have enough beds. And on this day we do.
It becomes a mad scramble as the team assembles to prepare beds and clothing and toiletries. The basics needed to get through the next few days until the sorting-it-all-out can begin. Then there are the days of enrolling in school and going on shopping trips. Because these kids have nothing. Nothing…except the clothes they came in wearing.
And so it goes. Over and over again. Sometimes there are things we can’t put into words and only a picture will do…the things we take for granted that many children live without. Both here in the US and abroad.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly[a] with your God.
