Welcome to the Big Red Sofa! This week is all about family and friends, food and fun! But that’s the way the biggest week of the summer should be, right? Of course, with a few fireworks thrown in.
I’m at my daughter’s home this weekend. Even took an extra day off work so I didn’t have to leave on a holiday. It always feels luxurious not to have to rush home. Besides today being Independence Day, this weekend was also about my granddaughter’s third birthday party. Her birthday was actually last weekend but we postponed the party to this weekend so I could be there. Well, be there and help with the party, of course! 🙂
We had a great time and Cambrie was thrilled with every single present. Every one. She oohed and aahed over every gift as if it was the most wonderful thing she had ever seen. The coloring book got the same reaction as the Paw Patrol backpack and as the Frozen bicycle. It was hilarious and precious all at the same time. Would that we could all learn to receive all the events of life as the gift that each and every one of them are.
As usual when I am here, Rachel and I always have a few projects to tackle. This time it was reupholstering the chairs at her bar. We’d done it a few years ago, but with three young children, you might imagine that it was time to do it again. And it was! Rachel and I make a great team and always have fun with the projects she dreams up. Big or small dreams, I hope you all have someone in your life you can dream with.
Today we will spend the day relaxing and doing some patriotic things. I hope to do Cambrie’s three-year old pictures today too. So you’ll probably see those show up soon too.
On this Day of Independence, I pray that each of you are with people that you love, and that you are celebrating the freedom we are blessed to have in Jesus.
Thanks for creating community here with us! The Big Red Sofa Series is about the things I see in life that make me go hmmmm. What God teaches me in scripture. The ordinary things that God can use to drive home spiritual lessons. The questions I sometimes ask. The stories we can all share. So pull up a cushion and join me on the sofa. I’d love to hear from you!
