There are a lot of how-to books out there. From how to fix a car to decorate  your home, from baking a cake to making a video, from tying a scarf to tying a tie, you can find a book or a video or tutorial or a wiki-something to teach you to do just about anything. It’s an amazing world we live in, huh?

Sometimes even when you’ve been doing something for a long time, there is still more to learn. I love that about life. None of us is every really a master at what we are passionate about. So we can just keep pursuing it. And keep reading the how-to books.

Meet-Debi-1longJust this week, Debi Stangeland launched her new book, Delicious Blogging: The Ingredients You Need to Create a Better Blog, and through today, it’s FREE on Kindle!! That’s right, FREE! There’s also a workbook of action steps designed to walk you through the content in 31 days. So in a month you can have the most delicious blog of your own making. And nothing’s better than something you’ve  made yourself, right?

Debi has been blogging for years and has been sharing her valuable tips and insights on her own blog and through online communities. Her book is straightforward and non-intimidating. Each chapter takes a small section of your blog to review and helps you decide if something needs to be added or tweaked…or if it’s fine just the way it is. I’m not all the way through the book yet, but I’ve already found some things to change and some things I’m doing right. That’s a win in any book!!

Delicious Blogging is so practical. Debi has great words of wisdom on navigating social media, making beautiful graphics, and even a chapter on staying out of trouble by not using others’ content. But besides the practical tips, Debi talks about real life. She encourages community, because none of us can do life alone and we sure can’t do an online life alone.

And she encourages us to Get a Life. That was one of my favorite chapters. Because sometimes you just have to Step. Away. From. The. Computer. If all we do is live online, we will quickly run out of things to talk about. Real life is lived out there…not on our screens. And as so many of my friends have found out in the last year, that’s the real catalyst behind a good blogging experience. Do it and be good at it…but don’t let it overtake your life!
