giftsofhealing

Welcome to the Big Red Sofa! I feel like I have laid on this sofa for the entire weekend. Maybe even longer. It seems to be a sanctuary of rest and peace for me these days. So pull up a cushion and join me!

This is not a post about essential oils. Sorry if the picture confused you. Yes, I have started using some oils. Yes, I’d be interested in your experience, if you’d like to leave a comment below. But no, this post is not necessarily about essential oils.

Rather, it is about healing. It is about self-care. It’s about being in close enough connection with my heart, mind, body, and soul, that I can tell when healing is needed.

As my journey to better health of all kinds continues, I’m reminded on a daily basis that all of those things are connected to one another. When my heart is sick, it’s hard for my mind to be well. When my body is weary, it’s difficult for my soul to be at peace. When my soul is worn out, there’s no fuel for health in the other parts of my life. It seems that we need all of the gifts of healing, all the time.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23

I’m grateful for a Father who has the healing I need…the healing we all need. Whether it’s a physical rest, or a mental breather, or a heart respite…whatever the rest we need, He has it.

Are there quiet waters in your life today? Or is there at least a sofa you can stretch out on? Maybe it’s your favorite chair in a quiet corner of your home…or a hike up a quiet trail…or a sweet time with friends…or a precious moment of worship.

Wherever it is, let me encourage you to take advantage of the rest and quiet, grace and comfort that He pours over you like the richest of oils.

Thanks for creating community here with us! The Big Red Sofa Series is about the things I see in life that make me go hmmmm. What God teaches me in scripture. The ordinary things that God can use to drive home spiritual lessons. The questions I sometimes ask. The stories we can all share. So pull up a cushion and join me on the sofa. I’d love to hear from you!
