The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
A People to Love
Even when you live in a place that’s not your favorite, you still come to love the people you work beside every day. That may be especially true when you do the kind of work that we do. So when it’s time to say see you in a few weeks, it comes with some wistfulness.
I’m packing up my apartment and moving down the mountain this week. Leaving a place that has been hard and lonely, but has taught me so much in the last 3 1/2 years. And although I’ll be back every few weeks (because I’m not changing jobs, just moving to a different location), and I’ll still interact with my team here on a regular basis, it’s not like seeing them every day. And it’s not like being in this community where the air is different because of a common commitment to creating a sanctuary where hope and healing are found.
The Lord’s Blessing
So as I go this week, I’ll hug lots of folks. I’ll remind them that I’ll be back in two weeks. We’ll laugh that I’m not really leaving, my office will just be down the mountain instead of down the hall. And I’ll pray the Lord’s blessing over each and every one…that the Lord blesses and keeps them, shines his face upon them, and gives them peace.
May he be gracious to us all.
