Looking for a File
It’s so maddening when you can’t find something you are looking for. Especially when you really need whatever it is. You know, like your car keys, your phone, or your wallet. So you start praying for a miracle.
This has happened to me twice in the last couple of months. It wasn’t my wallet or my keys. It was two different files for current projects that all of a sudden disappeared. I mean I couldn’t find them anywhere. And these files were for major projects that I have been working on. I would have to start all over again if I didn’t find them.
When the first one went missing, I turned my office upside down over the course of several days. It was nowhere to be found. I finally just prayed one morning that God would help me find this file in a hurry. When I walked into my office that morning, I immediately noticed a file in the file organizer on my desk. It was right in the front and it was upside down. My first thought was why in the world would I have put this file in here upside down? And yep, you guessed it…it was my missing file. I believe God answered my prayer that morning because that file was not there when I tore up my office the day before.
It happened again this week. Another file for another important project. This time I thought I’d misplaced it in all the moving. But I’d been through my temporary office, my house, my car, and my old office in Crossnore. No file. I’d already been praying about it but this morning as I lay in bed willing myself to get up on a Monday morning, I prayed again for God to help me find a file.
Today at lunch, I felt the prompting of the Spirit to mention the missing file to my co-workers. I couldn’t imagine what it would accomplish but the urging was strong so I followed it. As soon as I did, my communications associate asked if the file had a previous publication and my mock up of the cover for the. new publication. Of course, it was my file and she had it in her office. It had never occurred to me until that moment to ask anyone else on my team if they had my file. But God answered my prayer today by prompting me to mention it to them.
Looking for a Miracle
I don’t know if you believe that God answers prayers in this way. But I do. The testimony today is that God sees everything that happens in our lives. And He cares about all the things that concern us. Whether it is a difficult relationship, a financial problem, or a missing file, He is distressed when we are distressed and He wants to help us through those times.
Matthew wrote in his gospel,
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
I realize a missing file is small potatoes compared to some of the things you guys are dealing with. And I’m certainly not trying to compare the two situations or make light of any difficulty. But again, the testimony today is that God sees all and He cares about all. That means ALL…everything that touches us, big or small, important or not-so-much. I’m certain that He cares enough to find my missing files and even more certain that He cares about whatever you are facing today. And He is working in that too.
