Bread is my downfall. Well, that and sugar. And as my friend Ashlee recently said, bread and sugar together is even better! Right.
Working on my health and learning more about my food issues this year has been very enlightening. More so than I would have guessed…or wanted, if I’m gonna be honest. And just when you think you’ve learned all there is, you haven’t.

Jesus answered, ‘It is written: May shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4:4
Boom. Another lesson drops into my lap and into my heart when I least expected it. Because you see, I’m still struggling on this weight loss journey. It’s been a few more months since the scale has budged. I’m not gaining but I haven’t lost any more either. The end goal is still looming in the distance while those pesky little temptations keep sneaking in…like bread and sugar…and bread and sugar together.
Just as I’ve always known though, this battle is more mental for me than it is physical. If I’m not in the right place mentally, then I won’t be in the right place physically either.
But this verse spoke right to my heart about both of the struggles I’ve had in the last couple of months. Too tired and stressed out to really focus on either area of my life, the need to stop eating and start Feasting has danced around the edges of my consciousness for weeks. So imagine my surprise when I went to Bible Gateway to search for my next memory verse and there it was. In black and white. In the Verse of the Day box. I couldn’t have missed it if I’d tried.
I shouldn’t have been surprised.
