Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sunrises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.
By this time in the winter, we are often looking forward to spring and the light spring rains that water the earth. Tired of the gray and brown, we long for the bright hues of spring that herald the entry of a season of newness.
The promise of spring rains
These verses in Hosea remind us that as we acknowledge the Lord…even pressing on to acknowledge Him…He will appear. The spring rains will come to water the earth. They will come to bring new life and refreshment.
But it’s really more than that. It’s not just that the Lord comes like the spring rains. Rather it’s that He is our refreshment. He is our renewal. He comes as the eternal spring that we long for.
This verse is a great reminder to me to continue to acknowledge the Lord. I love the phrasing “to press on to acknowledge Him.” It is intentional and proactive. I can’t just sit back and let it happen. Nor can I acknowledge the Lord once and let that suffice for all time. I have to press on to that acknowledgement every day.
