It was a waiting game almost all day long. It wasn’t really but when you wake up before dawn, it seems the whole day has passed by early afternoon! The baby seemed content to wait and the hospital wasn’t in any big hurry either…they pushed back Rachel’s arrival time by an hour and a half. So we waited…mommy and daddy at the hospital. YaYa and children at home.

Just about the time I was ready to load up the mini-van, Rachel called again and the surgery time was pushed back again. So we waited some more.

Finally, it was time to go to the hospital. We got so excited and ran to the van…or rather, I chased kids to the van with a YaYa-bag loaded down with every conceivable need that might arise. I’m sure it was quite the sight.

But just as you might imagine, once we got there, we just waited some more…which made for some good photo ops…

We watched TV and we ate and we walked the halls. And I answered the same questions 100 times, I’m sure. Reminded me of their mother, which seemed rather appropriate for the day.

Finally, we got the word…he was here and we could go see him!

He is perfect! Big boy, big eater, and already good at doing other things that babies do. Cambrie can’t keep her hands off of him…

And Cohen missed him as soon as we left the hospital…

And of course, we had to do his first selfie with YaYa…

It is amazing how the heart grows to accommodate just one more. It reminds me of how God loves us and welcomes each one of us to the family when we are reborn in the name of Jesus.

Children and children’s children surely are a crown. Can you imagine how beautiful God’s crown must be?

May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. Psalm 90:16

Welcome to the world, Connor James. We can’t wait to see how you will surprise us, challenge us, and grow into the man God wants you to be.

But for  now, let’s just snuggle a little more.
